The Cat, The Robin, & A Badger

| Here is where it all happened. The dirt path along the fence the space between the cottonwood branches and the tall golden grass. |
As I walked through the garden I asked my cat, " Isn't it enough to be in the fresh air, sharpen your claws on the wood, and roll in the grass? Must you also chase the birds?"

Mr. Robin was loudly chirping one after the other and Harley stood up straight and sniffed the air. It seemed as though Harley walked in the direction of Robin but soon I realized he was not going towards Robin at all. He had seen something else near the other side of the fence.
I followed him and looked between the cottonwood branches I was shocked to see a badger !
"Oh Harley, Harley, come back! It is a badger!" I pleaded. I had heard from many people that badgers are ferocious. I took my long red handled shovel to place between him and badger. I kept a steady and slow pace to head him off at the fence but he had already climbed through the wire fence. And what I saw next was another Disney-like scene. I saw that Harley was face to face with Badger. Side by side they stood and nothing happened. Badger went waddling home down the dirt path and disappeared into the tall golden grass through. I held myself in devout appreciation and soaked it all in, the wonder of it all.
In reflection, I share this note: This morning I witnessed another Disney-like scene. A 300 lb. llama nuzzling cheek to cheek with Bun Bun, a new friendly rabbit in our neighborhood. That would have been lovely event for this day but there was more magic to be enjoyed.
Note : While I write this, the faeries sit on my shoulder and whisper something in my ear. I feel it important to write down. Perhaps it will tie in somehow later.
"The faeries never make sense in a completed way or circuit. They show Light and I follow the Light and that leads me to the next epiphany and the next. "
I looked up badger in my Animal Speak book by Ted Andrews.
The badger stands for Self-Expression and Reliance and Keeper of Stories
They are remarkable diggers. It can move rapidly through the earth. This ties them to all earth spirits and gnomes of lore.I also found the following on badger.
I would ask you to remember only this one thing,” said Badger. “The stories people tell have a way of taking care of them. If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive. That is why we put these stories in each other’s memory. This is how people care for themselves. One day you will be good story-tellers. Never forget these obligations.

Looking back... I see a different interpretation. I realize many segments of Light showed to me by my beloved faeries, which lead me to a new awareness.
- The first Light worth mentioning was Bun Bun and the Llama, Lakota. It was not a usual sight and showed me how different animals can be friends.
- The second Light the faeries showed me was Robin's intention. I realized later Robin was giving an alarm sound as the badger waddled along the dirt path.
- The third Light was Harley, my cat. I know now that he was not going after Robin but his sense of smell and keen awareness drew him to investigate the stranger.
- And the fourth Light was Badger who showed me a gentleness and respect towards my cat, Harley and also sparked my curiosity about badgers and what they meant in animal medicine. I have a new animal in my life with great medicine, self -expression and reliance and Keeper of Stories.
Reading about badger sparked my inspiration for sharing these stories with you.
Faeries are Nature Angels and they are always sending you Light and Love.
